The Solvitur Ambulando series, photographed between 2019 (– ongloing) on Medvednica mountain, was born out of years -long practice of walking through nature. This diary record is based on meditation through walking, the choosing of paths, and the necessity of being alone or in select company. The term ‘solvitur ambulando’, attributed to St. Augustine, translates as ‘solved by walking’, while the Japanese term ‘gyoja’ refers to a walker – one who resides nowhere, who inhabits emptiness. Walking, in this context, is an act of improvisation rather than analysis, seeking structure while also escaping it – resulting in non-structured experiences. The photographs of these walks and reflections, taken with a cell phone, capture the continuity of engagement with the forest during bi- weekly climbs up Medvednica, regardless of weather conditions, creating a reflective record of intense personal engagement with the forest world. After 2023, photos are taken exclusively by digital camera. Each color photograph is named after the location at which it was taken.
